BTS go Eco friendly with Formula E
BTS are a Korean pop (K-Pop) group and one of the most famous boy bands in the world, and this amount of stardom is sure to draw peoples attention. The boy band’s celebrity status can be a cause for good, and the Bangtan Boys “as they’re known” are making a change by teaming up with the ABB FIA Formula E electric car racing series as global ambassadors who will highlight awareness on important social issues and shine a spotlight on climate change.
Formula E have spoken about a global race to save the earth. “With air pollution being the single largest environmental risk to peoples health today and according to the World Health Organization causes more deaths each year than smoking, both Formula E and Bangtan Boys aim to encouraging future generations and millions of their youthful fans to take up cleaner energy and make the next generation driving electric vehicles. “BTS have grown a switched on fan base that is highly passionate about social issues and we share a common vision to raise awareness of the danger of climate change.” According to Formula E executives
Their fans took to social media to congratulate the group’s electric car partnership. One fan tweeted, “BTS raising awareness of global warming while looking mighty powerful while doing it, ‘so hot'”. The group is clearly shifting up a gear for the environment, but this isn’t their first cause they’ve supported. The Korean Pop supergroup have leveraged their status for a cause close to their hearts. Despite some historic K-Pop controversies, one of the barely mentioned facts about BTS involves its philanthropic efforts.
Variety have reported that BTS have partnered with the ABB FIA Formula E Championship street racing series for the sole purpose of highlighting the environmental advantages of electric cars. BTS is now an official Formula E ambassador and, of course intend to use their elevated presence to spread awareness over several environmental issues most importantly air pollutants. The band is just the latest in a long line of celebrities to team up with Formula E, following in the footsteps of, Diane Kruger, Leonardo Dicaprio and Orlando Bloom.
In a statement about the partnership, Jamie Reigle, Chief Executive Officer of Formula E shared, “We are delighted to announce BTS as a global ambassador of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship. BTS has grown a switched on fan base that is enthusiastic about social issues and we share a common desire to raise awareness of the threat of climate change. In partnering with BTS, we will amplify our purpose of accelerating the transition of electric vehicles to a global youth audience.”
Fans have already begun sharing their positive thoughts on Twitter about the campaign, and champion that it’s great news that BTS is using their publicity for good as everyone tries to find ways to save our planet from global warming.
The boyband joined forces with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) as part of the organization’s “Love Myself” campaign. In September 2018, BTS group vocalist ‘RM’ gave a heartfelt speech at the UN about his own struggle with identity and acceptance. “I have come to love myself for who I am, for who I was, and for who I hope to become,” he said. RM also inspired others to find their voice. “I’d like to ask all of you: What is your name? What excites you and makes your heart beat? Tell me your story. I want to hear your voice and I want to hear your conviction. No matter who you are, where you’re from, your skin color, your gender identity, just speak yourself.
Formula E, which is known as ABB FIA Formula E for sponsorship reasons, is a single-seater motorsport championship that uses only electric cars because it’s a cleaner, better, future of Formula 1.
It’s certainly a good business decision, as BTS had more than 60 million listeners and three billion streams across 79 countries on Spotify in 2019 alone as well as an army of over 90 million followers on their official social media accounts. This new collaboration offers an extra route to further the mission of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship.
In joining with BTS, they can broaden our goal of speeding up the adoption of electric vehicles to a global youth audience. eco friendly celebrities and others have joined them at previous E-Prix races, and they look forward to collaberating with BTS to continue to promote ecological balance and the electric movement.”
“We are extremely happy to collaborate with Bangtan Boys to catalyze a move towards a carbon free future, faster,” their spokesman said. Upon this announcement Korean national public broadcaster KBS made a public statement that they will be airing the inaugural Formula E Championship race, which will be held in Seoul on Sunday, May 3, 2020.
With this new development, we can look forward to seeing an entire truckload of new fans on board for the upcoming Formula E Championship.
