Joaquin Phoenix joins forces with Extinction Rebellion for a new movie highlighting climate change. Amazon and Phoenix have produced a new film spotlighting the importance of tackling global warming.

The ‘Gladiator’ star is also famous for his activism like championing animal rights, has partnered with Extinction Rebellion to produce a short film called ‘Guardians of Life’, which is part of a new campaign to raise awareness about the different aspects of the Climate and Ecological Emergency. The actor was last month arrested for his part in a Washington D.C. protest with Jane Fonda, where he again discussed the link between climate change and animal agriculture.

Joaquin read in a statement: “It’s really a call to action. I created it to raise awareness about the meat and dairy industry’s effect on climate change. The fact is we are clear cutting and burning rainforest’s and seeing the negative effects of those actions worldwide. People don’t realize there’s still time, but only if we act now and make sweeping changes to our consumption. We can’t wait for governments to solve these problems for us. We can’t wait until the election to try to make these changes. We have a personal responsibility to make changes in our own lives and act now.”

The two-minute film also stars an array of Hollywood actors such as Rosario Dawson, Matthew Modine, Q’orianka Kilcher, Oona Chaplin, Adria Arjona, and Albert Hammond Jr. of The Strokes.

The film is the first of a twelve-part series, every part of which will tell a story about the most urgent issues threatening the human species as we move into what is believed to be the sink or swim decade for the survival of life on earth.

The short film, which is set in an Emergency Room, serves as a (PSA) Public Service Announcement, for the suffering of the Amazon and its indigenous communities, and a ringing alarm bell for deforestation and cultural biodiversity loss happening all across the globe, as a result of catastrophic wildfires, floods, droughts and storms.

“The Amazon has been described as the lungs of the world, or the heart of the world, but instead of documentary footage we proposed an ER setting with doctors and nurses trying to save an unseen patient with systemic heart failure. The twist is not only who one of the paramedics is, but what they were really fighting to save all along.”

The co-founder of Extinction Rebellion, Gail Bradbrook advised “There is still a ignorance between how bad things are and the action that needs to happen. But that gap is narrowing. There are more celebrities and powerful people starting to break ranks, to tell the truth and act as if it is real.”

The Guardian believes that the problems we face on the climate crisis are systemic and that fundamental societal change is needed. We will keep reporting on the efforts of individuals and communities around the world who are fearlessly taking a stand for future generations and the preservation of human life on earth. We want their stories to inspire hope.

They hope the viewers will consider supporting us today. They require your support to keep delivering quality journalism that’s open and independent. Every reader contribution, however big or small, is so valuable.

The film is available to watch here , which aims to spread awareness, action and donations, which will go towards the selfless acts of Amazon Watch and Extinction Rebellion.
