In a noteworthy collaboration, Katy Perry, the renowned American pop artist and UNICEF goodwill ambassador, has joined forces with the British Asian Trust to combat child trafficking. The partnership, unveiled recently, underscores Perry’s commitment to humanitarian causes.

The announcement came following Perry’s encounter with Prince Charles and other advocates of the Trust during her visit to Mumbai in November last year. Impressed by the Trust’s comprehensive strategy to address child trafficking, Perry expressed her eagerness to contribute. “I’m deeply honored to serve as an ambassador for the British Asian Trust’s Children’s Protection Fund,” Perry remarked, highlighting her dedication to supporting the Trust’s initiatives in South Asia.

The official declaration took place at the Trust’s annual royal dinner at London’s Banqueting House, where discussions centered on anti-trafficking measures and strategies to combat child labor. Attended by British ministers and philanthropists, the event shed light on the grim reality of child labor in India, where an estimated 5.8 million children are engaged in forced labor, enduring grueling workdays lasting up to 15 hours.

Established in 2007 by Prince Charles and prominent British Asian business leaders, the British Asian Trust aims to tackle poverty, inequality, and injustice in South Asia. With Perry’s involvement, the Trust anticipates amplifying its efforts to protect vulnerable children and eradicate the scourge of child trafficking.
