Michelle Rodriguez, a longtime supporter of the Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR), graced the star-studded amfAR gala at Cipriani Wall Street during New York Fashion Week. The renowned actress, known for her impactful roles, shared her insights on the significance of AIDS advocacy in the contemporary political climate, emphasizing the crucial role of organizations like amfAR.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter on the gala’s red carpet, Rodriguez highlighted the importance of supporting those affected by HIV/AIDS, particularly within the LGBTQ community. Rather than dwelling on political dynamics, she expressed hope in amfAR’s continued efforts to advance their decades-long mission of finding a cure for the life-threatening virus.

Rodriguez, a dedicated advocate for AIDS research, commended amfAR for their substantial contributions to the cause. She acknowledged the glitz and glamour associated with the galas, recognizing the extensive work happening behind the scenes. The actress, who has attended around 40 amfAR galas in her career, praised amfAR for translating the event’s allure into tangible results, with scientists actively working on groundbreaking solutions, including drug development.

The gala, beyond its star-studded attendees and opulent atmosphere, served a critical purpose in raising funds for amfAR’s life-saving research programs. A live auction, presided over by renowned art auctioneer Simon de Pury, featured exclusive items such as trips to Africa and Asia, an original Andy Warhol piece, and a Playboy portrait of Kate Moss captured by photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot. The auction’s success saw over $1.7 million raised for amfAR’s ongoing initiatives.

Michelle Rodriguez, in addition to her presence at the gala, has been actively involved in various philanthropic endeavors throughout her career. While details on specific charities she supports may vary, her commitment to giving back and contributing to causes that align with her values is evident. The gala provided a platform for Rodriguez to showcase her dedication to amfAR and their collective pursuit of eradicating HIV/AIDS.

As Milla Jovovich, honored at the gala, expressed, “Award or not, I would have been here. What motivates me the most to keep coming back and supporting this cause are the people I know who’ve been affected by AIDS, friends who I’ve lost and friends who are still living with HIV. I will never stop fighting for them.” The evening served as a testament to the collective commitment to AIDS advocacy and the ongoing battle against HIV/AIDS.
