“Endangered,” released on Earth Day, cast a spotlight on seven critically endangered species and the potential actions that could ensure their survival. This groundbreaking documentary, the first to feature Ellen DeGeneres as the narrator, not only introduced audiences to her beloved gorillas but also shed light on the struggles of clouded leopards, Indonesian songbirds, sharks, frogs, lemurs, and the personal favorite of Ellen’s wife, Portia de Rossi – giraffes.

Proceeds from the “Endangered” campaign were entrusted to The Ellen Fund, an organization that focuses on effective partnerships with non-profits actively engaged in the conservation efforts of these at-risk species. By directing its attention to local solutions, as well as emphasizing principles of racial and gender equity, The Ellen Fund ensured that its mission extended beyond the realm of wildlife protection; it also aimed to uplift the communities engaged in these vital conservation efforts. Ellen DeGeneres’ campaign, therefore, offered hope not only to endangered animals but to the people who are their dedicated stewards.
